A Touch of This, A Taste of That: Baton Rouge’s New Viking Cooking School!
Last week, I experienced the new Viking Cooking School on the pool deck of the Hilton Capitol Center. All I can say is wow! I would classify myself as a novice cook, considering that I didn’t know how to open a can before leaving home for college. So when I tell you they have classes for all cooking skill levels, I mean they have classes for all skill levels.
Our class was a Best of Class titled “Grilling Seafood.” The menu included grilled margarita shrimp, Tuscan-style grilled tuna, Asian-marinated grilled fish and seasonal greens with champagne vinaigrette! We learned to make 3 different marinades and grilled all of the seafood ourselves!
Chef Matthew Brewton conducted the class, and he was great at making everyone feel relaxed and at home. The people at the class were fun, the food was delicious (and nutritious) and the view of the Mississippi River Bridge was breath-taking!
The Viking School is the first outdoor school of its kind. It offers a variety of classes and demonstrations from grilling techniques to decorating gingerbread houses and creating the perfect menu for your holiday celebrations. Learn more about the school and sign up for a class here.
