Baton Rouge Ballet Theatre presents “ABT II”
American Ballet Theatre’s ABT II will perform at the River Center Theatre for the Performing Arts on Sunday, February 28, 2010, at 7:00 p.m. ABT II, under the direction of Wes Chapman, is a classical company comprised of 13 dancers, handpicked from around the world. ABT II prepares young dancers to enter American Ballet Theatre and other professional ballet companies and provides opportunities for development to budding composers and choreographers. “There is such an energy and excitement in these impeccably trained dancers right at the beginning of their careers,” stated Molly Buchmann, BRBT Artistic Director. “They are the stars of the future.”
An important part of the ABT II mission, in addition to performing in communities across the world, is to participate in outreach programs for children and other selected groups. ABT II will teach a master class Sunday afternoon at Dancer’s Workshop, 10745 Linkwood Court, Baton Rouge, LA, prior to their performance. This class is open to classical ballet dancers at intermediate and advanced level. More information is available by calling Dancers’ Workshop at (225) 767-5814.
ABT II, now in its fifteenth season, performs a varied repertoire that mirrors the traditions of American Ballet Theatre, and, while firmly rooted in classical ballet, includes contemporary choreography, frequently showcasing new and established choreographers.
Tickets for the performance are on sale now and may be purchased by calling the BRBT office at (225) 766-8379, at all Ticketmaster locations and through the River Center Box Office. For more information, visit BatonRougeBallet.org.
